Investing in an Oasis ministry ensures you help keep workers in their place of service. And because God has called each Life Impact Staff member into Care of His Harvest Workers, their impact goes even BEYOND the day-to-day hosting, and care of ministry guests. Your investment in Life Impact is an investment in a PERSON, a committed Caregiver, not just in a place of ministry!
It’s amazing for Sheri and I to see how God uses these precious Caregivers in a multitude of ways, as they are established in an Oasis and giving that ongoing care. Broader ministry develops that takes their care to new levels depending on their heart and gifts.
Here’s an example from the ministry of Amber Stark. Amber grew up on the mission field as an MK. She came to LI at the age of 28 with the vision to have a place for missionary families. Her heart was to provide rest and care for the family unit because she saw that value in her own missionary experience! Now that heart and desire has expanded to an annual Missionary Kid Retreat, and those who experienced her loving care in the past as they cycled through the Good Book Oasis with their parents, wanted to return themselves for more time there with other MKs.
That’s a picture of her Oasis above, and here’s her report . . .
One of the highlights of the year for me was this past weekend when I hosted the Oasis’ first ever MK retreat! From Thursday night thru Sunday morning I was host to 9 teenagers and 1 adult for a great Missionary Kid time. I was able to share in some of the devotional time about my experience as an MK and talk with them about some other issues they may deal with. We also ate lots of food (of course!) and played games together — including a grand game of “Capture the Flag” in the castle ruins!
None of the kids knew each other before this so it was wonderful to see them making connections and realizing others experience the same things as they do. A few of the kids had been at this Oasis before, so it was great to see them again. One 16-year old girl, who has been here several times before, told the newly arriving MKs that the Oasis is “Better than Disneyland!” Wow, never had that compliment before! Granted, I don’t think she’s ever been to Disneyland, but still, it’s quite a compliment coming from a teenager!
Since it was our first MK retreat we asked the kids to give us their complaints and what they wanted next time. The worst complaint was that someone got a cold shower! All the rest said they wanted it to be LONGER and that we have MORE MKS! Hooray! Our first MK Retreat was a BIG success!
I am hoping to start doing an annual MK retreat so this was a good “Trial Run.” Lynette (the other adult leader) and I are EXHAUSTED so we have learned we definitely need more adult leaders. It was a bit too difficult to cook 3 meals a day for 11 people AND lead devotions AND play games AND have energy left to talk with the kids individually!
Please pray with me for these 9 MKs that the Lord will bring to mind the things we discussed together and He would strengthen them in their challenging and exciting MK lives!
